Departure from the hotel in Messina. Arrival at Syracuse.
Visit of the wonderful Archaeological Park, with the magnificent Greek Theatre (the biggest in Sicily and one of the biggest in the Mediterranean area), the fascinating Latomie (caverns engraved in the rocks), the imposing Altar of Hieron and the Roman Amphitheatre (the third biggest in Italy). Then, transfer to Ortigia and visit of the splendid historical city centre and of its wonderful palaces: Piazza Duomo (with its wonderful civic and religious architectures), the Cathedral (built on a pre-existing Greek Temple of Athena, still visible), the Seafront (with a wonderful panorama on the Harbour), Fount Arethusa (remembering the ancient myth of the Syracusan nymph), the medieval Bellomo Palace, the ancient Judaic district of Giudecca and the traces of Arabian city-planning.
In the evening, return to the hotel in Messina.

Visit of the picturesque historical city centre and of the imposing Castle, with a vast panorama all over the coast. Transfer to Tindari and visit of the enchanting Laghetti (little lakes) of Marinello. In the afternoon, visit of the Sanctuary devoted to the Black Virgin. Afterwards, visit of the archaeological remains of the ancient city of Tyndaris, with its little but wonderful Theatre.
In the evening, return to the hotel in Messina.

Departure from Messina’s hotel. Arrival at Palermo.
Visit of the wonderful Palazzo dei Normanni (Royal Palace), with its marvellous byzantine mosaics of the Palatine Chapel. Visit of the magnificent Norman Cathedral, whose interior hosts the Royal Tombs, first of all the tomb of the great emperor Frederick II. Afterwards, visit of the Norman Church of S. Giovanni degli Eremiti, predominantly in arabian style. In the afternoon, visit of the Quattro Canti (Four Cantons) of Palermo, also called the “Theatre of Sun”, and of the near Norman Churches of Martorana (with its astonishing byzantine mosaics) and of S. Cataldo. Then, transfer to Monreale and visit of the magnificent Cathedral, entirely covered with golden byzantine mosaics, and of the enchanting Benedictine Cloisters.
In the evening, return to Messina, at the hotel.
